Sawtooth ICT Backpack

Date: 08/29/2009
Category: Overnight Trip
Level: Hiking and Mountaineering Class D
Details:
This trip is scheduled for August 29-September 6.  Join us for an incredible trek-to-remember through the spectacular beauty of the Sawtooth Mountains. The 7 backpacking days will cover 61 miles (the longest day will be 10.9 miles!) between Grandjean and the South Fork of the Boise River, the most scenic section of the entire Idaho Centennial Trail. There is a mid-week jumping-on/off point, for a 35 mile hike to/from Atlanta, available if you can not make the entire hike. Portions of this route may have burned last summer but should still be scenic and interesting.
This backpacking trip is not for the beginner. In fact it is open only to those who have hiked at least one other portion of the I.C.T. with me (see June and July for “qualifying” hikes if need be). We will hike through, and camp at, some of the most awe-inspiring landscapes in the state of Idaho.
The elevation difference is “only” 4,000 feet between high and low points but we will climb over multiple 9,000 foot passes. Although the distance and elevation makes this a “moderate” outing you should be capable of completing multiple day trips over an extended route. With the exception of Atlanta, there is no access to the route (and even that is 4 miles off-trail).
