IMR members Judi Steciak and Carl Hamke spent 12 days on these glacier-fed rivers, rowing past brown bears, seals hunting Copper River salmon, and calving glaciers. While technically not difficult with just one Class 3 rapid in 157 miles, the cold water, fast current, high flow, boils, ice bergs, and braided channels presented serious hazards, not to mention the logistical challenges of a fly-in launch and take-out. The vast beauty of the environs and comradery in the group made the trip memorable. In addition to images from the trip, they will bring gear recommended for folks wishing to plan their own adventure on Alaska’s rivers.

Our warm-up presenter, Dr. Susan Bradford, will give a short presentation about her adventures in Croatia, in time for you to plan your European travels this summer.

Time and location: 7 pm at the Trophy Room at the Idaho Fish and Game Headquarters, 600 South Walnut, Boise, Idaho. Park behind the building (on the east side).

IMR monthly meetings are a way to hear about topics of interest to Idaho outdoor enthusiasts. Starting in 2017, meetings are held on the 2nd Thursday of the month and are free and open to the public. (Of course, we shamelessly hope you like what you see and will join the club--but we also don’t pressure you!) We provide outing updates, announcements, and have a 45-minute presentation followed by discussion and/or social time so people have a chance to meet one another.
