Join us in exploring Class I and II rivers in eastern Idaho. On Friday, we will leave Boise and drive about 6 hours (350 miles) to a developed campground. Each day thereafter we will set up our shuttle, paddle for up to 12 miles (5 or 6 hours on the river), and car camp at various National Forest or State campgrounds. On our last day, we will paddle and return to Boise.
We will be car camping in areas where bears may wander through at any time – store food in vehicles, do not sleep in the same clothes that you cook in, use a flashlight at night, and have bear spray readily available. Campground fees range from $15 to $20 per site with an extra vehicle charge of $5 to $7.
Participants must be able to eddy turn, ferry, avoid river hazards, and be comfortable with Class 2 rapids. Small craft (such as swift water canoes or quality inflatable kayaks) are appropriate. Bring your PFD, splash gear over warm layers, day dry bag, river straps, water shoes, first aid kit, sun screen, sun glasses, sun hat, tethered water bottles (at least two liters of capacity), car camping gear including bear spray, and non-perishable breakfasts, lunches, snacks and dinners. We will bring one extra IK paddle, pump and PFD for the group.
Put in and take out sites are accessible to passenger cars. No dogs, please, and no campfires.
