Flatwater Paddling in Idaho

Ron Watters, who co-authored Guide to Idaho Paddling with his wife Kathy, will give a presentation on easy paddling rivers in Idaho.

For over 25 years, Ron was director of the Idaho State University Outdoor Program, teaching outdoor skills and classes, leading many trips, climbing, back-country skiing, running rivers, and exploring in many parts of the West, Canada and Alaska.

His other books include Never Turn Back, a biography of whitewater pioneer Walt Blackadar, and Winter Tales and Trails, a guide to cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and backcountry skiing in Idaho, Yellowstone and the Tetons. All of his books tell stories, often with a historical bent.

He also chairs the National Outdoor Book Awards, a program which honors the best in outdoor writing and publishing.

Come join IMR members and non-members at a local eatery/watering hole--we'll be at Smoky Mountain Pizza on State Street, starting at 6pm. The spot is located at 1805 West State (south corner of 18th and State Street). This is a spot that has free parking (yay!) yet is central in the city. Smoky Mountain's Happy Hour ends at 6 pm, so if you show up a few minutes early ...

Our Happy Trails "meetings" are not "meetings", but a way for IMR folks and interested people to get to meet one another and talk about the outdoors--come alone or bring a few friends. No agendas, no nametags, no reservations. Just come by and ask where the Idaho Mountain Recreation folks are.

IMR monthly meeting are a way to hear about topics of interest to Idaho outdoor enthusiasts. The meetings are usually held on the 3rd Wednesday of the month and free and open to the public (of course, we shamelessly hope you like what you see and will join the club--but we also don't pressure you!). We provide outing updates, announcements, and have a 45 minute presentation followed by discussion and/or social time so people have a chance to meet one another.

IMR holds meetings at the MK Nature Center Education Building,(next to Idaho Fish and Game), 600 South Walnut, Boise, Idaho, from 7-9pm (meetings are from September through May--in June, July, August we will have potluck picnics.

Scott Marchant, author of hiking guides to the Stanley and Ketchum/Sun Valley area, will give a presentation describing his favorite hikes in these regions. Copies of his guidebooks will be available for purchase, and he will be happy to sign them.

Main Payette River Float (8/22/2010)

With late summer low flows, warm temperatures, and clear water, we’ll do a fun one day float on the Main Payette River from Banks to Beehive Bend. This section of river contains class 3 rapids that require intermediate rafting skill and a sound whitewater craft. There may be some space for riders depending upon participation and boats.
