Imogene Lake, Sawtooth Wilderness (1/17/2009)

The winter wonderland trip to Imogene Lake is one of our favorite 3-day ski tours. On Saturday, we will ski 5 or 6 fairly flat miles to Hell Roaring Lake (with only the first mile on a snowmobile trail) and camp. On Sunday we will day tour to Imogene Lake and beyond, depending on the strength of the party; there is a stiff 800-ft climb up the winter trail from Hell Roaring Lake before the terrain eases. We ski out and return to Boise on Monday (Martin Luther King Day). Back country touring skis are most appropriate for this trip; rondenee or telemark gear is fine albeit heavier. Transponders, probes, shovels, climbing skins, and winter camping gear are required. Participants must have strong intermediate skiing skills and the ability to ski with a full pack. Winter camping experience is preferred. No sleds. No dogs.

A beautiful trip up the snowshoe-specific trail to the yurt just for orientation's sake. Made for beginners. Roughly 3 miles and a few hundred feet elevation gain. Slowest person sets the pace. Sorry, no dogs allowed on the trail.

Join me on Sunday January 4th. We'll take the Green lakeside trail up to the easy Black thread the needle trail for sack lunch while enjoying great views of Payette lake and surrounding areas. We'll then return on the Blue lakeside trails and join up to the Blue fox run trail to the green easy does it trail back to the cars. Contact me via Email or phone for meeting location details. I'll drive my car and depending on number of participants others may have to drive as well, regular cars can usually make the trip depending on daily weather conditions. Persons interested in a first experience snowshoeing trip could also consider this trip as there are trails within Ponderosa that are designated for snowshoeing that are good beginner trails. The trip could be cancelled if the weather is too bad so be sure to provide me with cell phone numbers.

We’ll head up to the Whoop Um Up Park n Ski area 18 miles north of Idaho City where friendly dogs are welcome. We’ll enjoy the views of Whoop Um Up and Upper Lamar trail, and will also take a look at the Wagon Trail heading to the Beaver Creek Cabin. About 5 miles/900feet. We’ll carpool; call to register and for details.

This runs 3 days: Feb 1-3. Enjoy multiple outdoor films, from extreme outdoor sports to documentaries to conservation-themed films. The Egyptian Theatre is hosting the films. Doors open at 6pm, films start at 7pm. The Bosie Nordic Foundation sponsors the film festival -- http://www.bogusbasinnordicgroup.org/ . Tickets through www.idahotickets.com ($15).

Come join IMR members and non-members at a local eatery/watering hole--this month will be at Leku Ona, starting at 6pm. This is a Spanish/Basque restaurant, and according to Trip Advisor's website--it is the #6 ranked restaurant of 366 in Boise (wow!).
