This trip includes camping at Three Forks. As a group we will decide on what area we will hike on Saturday. Also note this is Free fishing weekend in Oregon, no fishing license needed to fish.
Option 1: Hike the North Fork (good one if it is hot, will be in water 50% of the time)
Option 2: Hike to 5 Bar (depending on water level of river)
Option 3: Hike West Fork of the little Owyhee (depending on water level of river)
Option 4: Hike to Antelope Canyon (depending on water level of river)
Option 5: Hike the Middle Fork
Option 6: Hike downstream of the main Owyhee
Gear & Supplies: Late Spring time in the Owyhee! The weather changes rapidly, so be prepared for snow, rain, thunderstorms, high wind, high heat, and sun. Also please note: There is no dependable cell phone coverage in this area – folks should plan accordingly. Participants are responsible for:
•Their own food/food preparation and water (5-7 gallons recommended per person) for 2 nights and 2 full days
•Camping gear (tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, pillow)
•Transportation to and from the trip – High clearance & 4WD vehicles recommended. All vehicles need to have a FULL spare tire (no donuts), tow strap and fix-a- flat/plug kit
•Sturdy off-trail ankle-high boots, waterproof pants and coat, comfortable hiking clothes and layers
•Sun Screen/Bug Spray
•Water Shoes/Sandals you can hike in if needed.
Provided by FOTO: A table, a sun/rain tarp, a basic first aid kit, and a satellite SPOT beacon for emergency communication.
This will be a camping experience at Three Forks with short hikes and a few miles in a vehicle to get to the hike location. There is a pit toilet at this location.
Friday June 3rd: Meet in Jordan Valley at 5pm (contact the trip leader for the meeting location). We will then convoy the rest of the way to Three Forks and set up camp. If you are going to be later then the 5 pm meet-up time please let the trip leader know by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or phone (541-212- 1907).
Saturday April 4th : Leave camp at 9am to our pre-determined hike location by car or foot depending on the option we choose . Hot Springs that Evening.
Sunday June 5th: Early Morning we will hike to the top of Three Forks Dome for the Sun Rise/see the morning sun light up the canyons below. After Camp is packed up we will take an hour to look for Trash. When we leave we will head to the Owyhee Canyon Overlook (different route leaving then what we came in)
Group Size limited to 12 people including kids and because of the remoteness, nobody under 7 years of age.
The Trip is FREE (besides your food and Gas)
