Join us in a semi-exploratory one-night backpack into beautiful Owyhee canyons with spring wildflowers and interesting rock formations. We'll leave Boise early in the morning, drive to the trailhead, and backpack about 4.5 miles down (3,500 ft. elevation loss) to a camp spot with reliable water - which must be filtered and exposed to UV light, or boiled. The route down follows an intermittent trail. We'll spend the rest of the day exploring side canyons and buttes. We'll take advantage of Sunday morning cool to climb back up and return to Boise.
We have hiked part of this area as a day trip.
Participants must have lightweight backpacking gear, sturdy footwear, sun protection, and a water purification system.
The trip is limited to four people (including the trip leaders) unless another driver with a high-clearance 4WD vehicle signs up. The small trailhead is about 70 miles from Boise (the last 20 miles on unpaved roads) and will take about an hour and 45 minutes. to reach. No dogs, please.
